Celie Bateman, Membership Chair
Celie joined WOPB in 2022, while it was still a seedling chapter, eager to learn and support the mission. She began gardening at 15, and loves to sharing her experience and knowledge, including propagating and sharing plants with others. She meets new people and gains a sense of fulfillment. Her appreciation for the benefits of native flora and fauna and the ecosystems they serve continues to grow. Celie assists WOPB with the Louisiana Certified Habitat Program. Her property is a LA Certified Habitat, at the Gold level. Elected to WOPB’s board of directors in 2023, Celie is currently involved in WOPB’s work groups addressing Events, Education and Outreach, Plant Rescues, Fundraising and Nature Walks, etc. She has been an active member of the St. Tammany Parish Master Gardener Association since 2022. Until recently, she worked as a Service Coordinator and Admin assistant and her skills and experience are proving to be invaluable for WOPB. Thank you, Celie!
Celie’s favorite:
Helianthus annulus, commonly known as common sunflower. “They attract a variety of bees and butterflies… then the birds eat the seeds… After Hurricane Katrina when morale was low, a nursery had a whole field of sunflowers blooming as you entered their property, soothing my soul and bringing a smile to my face…been planting them every year since.”
