What's the BUZZ about Native Plants lately?  Public is invited to attend.

A flocal freelance writer, Mimi Greenwood Knight, plans to add a few paragraphs to another nature oriented local article, to include info on WOPB and the meeting. She also planned to attend the meeting for personal interest but flooding rain prevented her from attending.

In-person quarterly Board Meeting

WOPB Board Meeting to finalize plans, etc. for upcoming Public Meeting on April, 16th.

Meeting for public and paid members. We will be having a plant and seed swap and will potentially have some short presentations. Call for volunteers to assist with table at Garden Show.

Attendees brought lots of plants to swap - many people went home with multiple plants.  It was a great success.  Also, Patty Z. spoke about Wild Ones, and Andrew Doyle spoke about landscaping with native plants.

Meeting for public and paid members. Wendy Rihner, BOD member will present "Native Plants ARE for the Birds!" Charlsie Shaver, proprietor of Chickadee Natives, will speak briefly on the importance of local genotypes in native plants. 

Linda Auld, aka NOLA BugLady will speak about the current research on Oe, a parasite that is devastating Monarchs in our region and elsewhere in the southeast. Eye opening and urgent, the research Linda will present motivates Monarch lovers to take action.

Open nominations accepted for membership to vote on new board of director members. 

Regular monthly meeting, and confirmation of nominations for candidates for the 2024 Board of Directors received during the Sept 1 through 22nd nominiation period.

Join Wild Ones Honorary Director Heather Holm as she explores the nesting habitats, life cycles, pollen collection, brood rearing, and general characteristics of some of the most common native bees in eastern North America, while highlighting the pollination of native plants and the mutualism between native plants and native bees.

When creating and managing thriving habitats for native bees, many factors such as seasonal phenology, nesting strategies, and flower preferences must be considered—and with approximately 3,600 species in North America (north of Mexico), there are many unique aspects to keep in mind when managing successful landscapes for bees.
